FOLLOW – UP REPORT

Foreword by the President of the Organizing Committee

The Second Euro-regional Conference DANUBIUS DESIGN is a result of the initiative arising from Mr. George Teodorescu, the Member of the Executive Board of ICSID, to see to life a new regional organization that would integrate large scope of designer activities in the Central and Eastern Europe with an aim to enhance understanding, exchange of creative experience and innovations, as well as existing tradition.

The Belgrade Conference hosted 155 distinguished designers, architects, theoreticians, and professionals, as well as the student representatives from 12 countries, who contributed with their lectures, research papers and discussions that put new light on local and regional traditions, points of view, current affairs and tendencies that form daily designer reality. Seven journalists reported from to conference. The general conclusion is that the unification of INNOVATION AND TRADITION reveals immense potential for economic and cultural development, understanding and regional integration with a goal to achieve prosperous, diverse and more humane living for all.

The conference presented 16 Keynote Speeches and 27 Lectures within three forums: Practice, Promotion and Education. The Sponsor Exhibition shown the relationship between economy and design, and ULUPUDS Design Section organized numerous exhibitions and manifestations throughout Belgrade.

As the surge of fresh and novel input, the Conference presented the results of first time realized DANUBIUS DESIGN PROJECTS:

• Creative Student Workshop “Technology and Lifestyle” (polietilen and objects on water), organized by the Faculty of the Applied Arts of the University of Arts, Belgrade, with 17 student representatives from Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia and Serbia and Montenegro.

• Creative Student Workshop “Textile as Communication” (textile design for national restaurant) organized by the Faculty of the Applied Arts of the University of Arts, Belgrade, with 18 student representatives from Bulgaria, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Serbia and Montenegro.

• Presentation of the Creative Student Workshop:”Flagship Europe” organized by the University of Linz, Austria.

• The “Danubius Design Diploma” Exhibition which presented the graduation works from the Faculties in the region.

The next Danubius Design Conference will be held in Ulm, Germany, so see you there.
